I love this, this is one of the most creative demonstrations and awareness raiser initiatives I have seen in a long time!
Q: How get people to care about global warming?
A: Explain in terms they can relate to!
What does the Canadian people relate to? Hockey! So in order to get the point across, explain that if global warming continues, all of the ice will melt and we will no longer be able to play hockey... Well, unless we stay indoors that is, but hey, let's not go too much into details here.
"We really wanted something to reach out to new individuals, people who aren't typically interested in climate change but really need to be.
We thought of something that is a fairly fundamental Canadian value and showed how it's going to be impacted as another way we can get more people speaking out and really pressuring our government to do something."
Brilliant! This initiative in combination with reducing cow flatulence, a big culprit on the global warming scene, surely must make a big difference!
"In some experiments we get a 70 percent decrease (in methane emissions), which is quite staggering, biochemist John Wallace told Reuters in a telephone interview.
In total around 14 percent of global methane comes from the guts of farm animals. It is worth doing something about, Wallace said. Other big sources of methane are landfills, coalmines, rice paddies and bogs."
Finally we can leave USA alone, and not keep pestering about signing that silly and progress limiting Kyoto agreement that they resent so much.
