Londonist, one of my favorite news sources on all things London, reports that Square Meal has released their new restaurant survey:
Think the service at your local chippie's bad? Well, reassure yourself that paying more money to eat at a top notch restaurant doesn't guarantee you any more civility, according to the latest Square Meal restaurant guide survey. The five worst restaurants for service, based on the survey results, are Cipriani, Inn The Park, Le Palais du Jardin, The Wolseley and Yauatcha.
Probably well worth taking a look at, Square Meal usually does a good and reliable job.
The worst food experience I have had here in London was in Chinatown, a small place on the central street. Should remember its name, service wasn't that bad, but it is completely gone. Oh well, age does that to you. More fun remembering the good times, like the absolutely amazing night me and my girlfriend at the time had just after my 30th birthday at the Swedish restaurant "Lilla Helfwetet" (translates to "the small hell") in Halmstad where you can eat heavenly food in a devilishly cool environment (no, I didn't think that up, it is their actual pay off in all their adveritising...).
On my actual birthday that year I received a letter from them (I was a member in their customer club thingie) with a gift card of one bottle of Moet, to go with any dinner I would like to eat there whenever in the future. Right, a piccolo probably. But no.
About a week later we went down there, in the middle of the week, to have a nice and quiet dinner just the two of us. We had the most amazing and attentative waitress, serving us absolutely delicious food (the chef must have been extraordinarlily happy that night) all night and as I showed her the gift card at the end of the meal she brought in a full bottle of Moet for us. I was pleasantly surprised, and since we had already finished a drink each pre dinner and then a bottle of wine we got quite "round under our feet" as we say in Sweden...
Lovely evening. That place is well recommended should you ever go to Halmstad, just below Gothenburg, on the west coast of Sweden. Wonderful little summer town, really.
When it comes to London, I certainly have felt very well treated both of the times I have been to our local pizzeria Castello, which is a fabulous little place.
