Finally back in London after working two full weeks in Sweden. It is good to be back. Don't get me wrong, I love Sweden. It is probably one of the most beautiful countries in the world, with the highest standard of living to boot. And decent water pressure everywhere!
Living in a suitcase is a drag though. Sorry to all hotels and friends I stayed with, but nothing beats my own bed, my own fridge and my own kitchen utensils.
Coming back I realised how much I actually like dirty, grubby and dodgy Elephant & Castle. Fascinating how the brain works. Just coming back from a stress less and beautiful, snow covered Sweden, where you expect to find fawns and magical lamp posts around every corner, as I was walking down Walworth Road (we are talking seriously ugly road here with blocks of flats of the scariest kind all around) I certainly felt like I was coming home. Truly acclimatised.
Brought a new knife with me back, a Japanese chef Edge knife from Sagaform. Beautiful, and half price on sale. Very comfortable, well balanced. Since I am now getting my own apartment, I need to stock up on things. Unfortunately the apartment I am most interested in doesn't have gas... I thought electrical stoves was a big no no in this country. Shame, but the rest of the apartment is to good not to consider. I can always cook at my friends', and get good company while doing so!
Lots of blogging to catch up on, reading as well as writing. Simply found no time or place to cook wile on this trip, too much work, too many to catch up with and too easy to go out to eat. I need to write about the kama from Pille, the cook book challenge from Anne and get cracking on the Five Food Challenges of 2006 that Paz tagged me with.
Broke my camera in Sweden. Yes, while drunk and having a great time at a really cool bar called Tranquilo in Gothenburg. The way the rest of that weekend evolved more than well made up for it though, so I sincerely don't mind much... But pics will be crappy PDA 640x480 VGA grainy stuff for a while until I get that sorted somehow.
Now off to Borough Market to try and think of something for lunch. Oh, the chores I have to do every weekend.
