I love chili. No, wait, strike that. I could not live without chili. Chili can lift a so so dish, you know the kind of food you make when you cook for yourself on an ordinary week night, to fantastic exotic spiciness. Or at least sting your mouth so much you actually forget how boring the rest of the dish is.
Anyway. My favorite Swedish newspaper, DN, yesterday had an article about growing chili in your own home. Since me and Ingrid are both really interested in greening up our fingers it sounds like a great little project to try out once we are settled in the new flat. Hopefully it won't be too late in the year to get started. Chili and cherry tomatoes, grown in the comfort of your own home. Yum.
Right now I don't have the luxury of fresh on the vine chili in my home though, so I have picked up a tip from a friend. Chili is indeed a fruit that needs to be kept fresh, and if left on its own it will wrinkle up and go dry within a few days. So what I do now is freezing them. Keep the lovely little fruits of explosive spiciness in your freezer, and just take one or two out as you need them. With a sharp knife it is still really easy to slice and chop them up, and once thrown in the pot they defrost instantly. Makes them last for weeks instead of days.
