Lancashire Hot Pot (sort of)
Originally uploaded by Manne.
Was home with a cold for two days this week, and saw a food show where some well known chef made a speed version of Lancashire hot pot. She basically just chucked a few pieces of neck of lamb with sliced onions in a frying pan, seasoned it and sprinkled it with flour and then put it in a big pot that she whacked in the oven with a covering lid of sliced potatoes. Total preparation time: 3 minutes. That included slicing the onions and potatoes... So I figured I had to try.

Lentils with bacon lardon and poached egg

Went to see Avenue Q with W the other night. Best Christmas present I have received in a very long time. Thank you so much! If you haven't seen Avenue Q (wikipedia) yet, get a move on. End of March it is over, and you will have missed out on some of the funniest songs ever performed on stage in Soho.
UPDATE: They have since this was originally written extended the show in a different venue. See the Avenue Q web site for times and tickets! Go, go!
It was a late evening show, so we needed something to eat before hand. Decided on Côte on Tavistock Street near Covent Garden since I read several good reviews about them a few months ago. Besides, there is something about the look and feel of a classic French bistro that just makes me feel at home. Côte does not disappoint.

Vegetable and turkey wok
Originally uploaded by Manne.
Been home with a serious cold for two days now and certainly not feeling up for cooking. Thing is, I bought all these vegetables on Monday evening with a plan to cook a number of things for dinner and left overs lunch over the week, so had to do something with it.
Dug out this old Swedish cookery book called "Food in a wok" (link in Swedish) which has lots of dead simple and really quick recipes in it. Somehow, despite the little effort required, I am almost never disappointed with the results. One of my most cherished cookery books indeed.
Recipe does require you to have sherry at home, but who in their right mind doesn't? Besides, you should drink more sherry so as to make sure the supply of sherry barrels for maturing whiskey in doesn't dry up! We need a new generation of sherry drinkers!

Tsunami, Japanese in West End
Originally uploaded by Manne.
Went for long overdue dinner with my crazy ultramarathon running friend J a few days ago, and we decided to go for Japanese. Not only because I was feeling particularly keen on Japanese food, they also had 20% off the food bill if booking before 19:00... In these times it seemed like a prudent thing to reward with a visit.
